Clancy J. Covert founded Covert Law Group in 2011. Prior to this association of attorneys being formed, Mr. Covert was a partner with Luther-Anderson, PLLP, a long-standing and well-established firm in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Prior to Covert Law Group, Mr. Covert’s practice focused on litigation, with a strong focus on insurance and employment litigations. For more than ten (10) years, Mr. Covert’s clients included several Fortune 500 companies as well as some of the largest insurance companies in the world. Mr. Covert also represented many individuals as well as local companies ranging from sole proprietorships to entities with hundreds of employees. Mr. Covert has significant experience in various litigation settings including employment litigation, personal injury litigation, criminal defense litigation and family law litigation.
Mr. Covert has also represented clients in numerous high profile criminal cases, including the defense of Tanya Craft, a local kindergarten teacher whose case drew national media attention after she was falsely accused of child abuse. In that case, Mr. Covert along with other members of the legal team earned an acquittal of all twenty-two (22) counts against his client. Mr. Covert helped Mrs. Craft regain custody of her children following the acquittal. Mr. Covert loves being in court and assisting clients in difficult and emotional situations but feels that each case is important and that professional, prompt and effective communication is key in trying to find solutions to his clients’ problems.
Clancy is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Chattanooga Bar Association. In 2013 and again in 2014, Clancy was named to the Top 100 Trial Lawyers by the National Trial Lawyers Association. In 2014 he was also named to Top 10 list of the National Academy of Criminal Defense Attorneys. Clancy is admitted to practice in the US District Court for the Eastern and Middle Districts in the State of Tennessee, the Supreme Court of Tennessee and all courts in Tennessee. In addition, he serves as a family law mediator in the State of Tennessee.
Originally from upper East-Tennessee, Mr. Covert earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1994 from Carson Newman University. While at Carson Newman, Mr. Covert played on the University baseball team, was a member of the National Honor Society and also served as the Attorney General for Student Government. Following completion of his undergraduate degree, Mr. Covert earned his Juris Doctor degree from Nashville School of Law in 1999.
